Caramel (2007) – Lebanon: Follows the lives of 5 women in Beirut in the early-2000′s as they negotiate religion, gender, sect, and sexuality.
Paradise Now (2005) – Palestine: Story of three friends in the West Bank who struggle to deal with how to respond to the Israeli military occupation of their homeland, entering its 38th year in 2005. Two of them undertake the decision to become suicide bombers, and the film follows the psychology behind this fateful decision.
Yaqoubian Building (2006) – Egypt: Tale of an apartment building in Downtown Cairo and the residents, who hail from a variety of classes and religions and deal with the issues of contemporary Egyptian society, including corruption, extremism, exploitation, and sexuality, all while living distinct but parallel lives in their 19th Century Belle Epoque home in the center of the Egyptian Capital.
